In the city is a historic Norman Church dating from the 11th Century as well as 13 other churches of varying ages. The Norman church is just off the main piazza, one of three in old Tropea. The church itself is quite small by modern standards.
Here's what the interior looks like. And of course you can like a candle and pray to your favorite saint. Well light an electric candle any way.
On Sunday everything pretty much shuts down for church and the Italians only real day off. The Piazza is crowded with churchgoers and old friends visiting older friends. One small piazza on the northern side of the old city afforded some of the best views and was surprisingly empty.
That's Tropea's commercial and leisure port as welll a a nice shaded park that I'm told is very busy in the summer.
Another one of those narrow streets in the old town residential area.
You'll notice the paving stones that replaced the original cobblestones. Those were done in the 30's and 40's under Mussolini when cars became more widely available to most Italians.
Finally got that pizza that i was longing for. Pizza Tropea, with 4 cheeses and Tropean onions. They're red and renown all over Italy evidently. It was yummy. No deep dish here. I had a calzone on the side to take home to have with the pasta I made for dinner on Monday.
$1.25 for each. $3 for the beer.
Monday was a shopping day. Down the hill and back again with my nachos. Yes. NACHOs (Kinda) Pics tomorrow after a walk on the beach.
Did I mention it was 60 again today??? But it was a cold 60.
Thanks to all who SKype me and email me. It really makes the day go by quickly, gives me something to look forward to and is great to see friendly faces. Thanks again.
