Day 35 - You'll have to wait for pictures

Hi everybody. Just a quick update. Working online in an internet cafe around the corner from my B&B, so no pictures tonight.

Busy day. Caught an early train out of Sorrento and a 9:50 out of Naples to Rome. An absolutely beautiful day of course. Not a cloud in the sky and pretty darn warm for early in the day. I could see Vesuvius this morning from the train, but no real opportunity to take pictures.

New lesson on Italian Trains. Travel first class. I mean like always travel first class. Big seats, lots of room for your luggage and complementary Italian newspapers for those who want them.

Quick trip as well. Just 1 hour and 10 minutes to Rome. Mileage flies by when you're traveling 250 KPM. Beautiful country between Rome and Naples. Lots of snow covered mountains( I had no idea that they had mountains that high in Lazio, but they do).

Got to Rome, caught the subway, one stop later then two blocks by food and I was at where my B&B was located. Of course the room wasn't ready, so I took a short walk down to the Coliseum to see what the lines were like. They were like, around the Coliseum. (Not quite but pretty damn long.) Went back to the restaurant where I left my bags and of course, still not ready. So I had a beer and half way down, the rooms ready.

Across the street and up two flights to Locando Monti. My room was not ready. 3 rooms, more like an apartment that was divided up. 15 more minutes and my Bulgarian maid said she was ready for me.

Got my cameras ready. Got my guidebook out and off to do the big tour day 1.

The Coliseum and Palantine Hill, including the Forum. 4 hours later, I'm done. Literally. After Pompeii and this, my knees were sore. Oh, I've got a 7 hour day tomorrow with the Vatican and other sites on the way back. My Bulgarian waitress, her mom is my Bulgarian maid, said it would take me an hour plus to walk to the Vatican from here. So I'm rethinking my strategy. Gotta be there by 8 AM, so I'm thinking subway over and then walking back. I'm thinking. We'll see in the morning.

100 plus pictures of the Coliseum and Forum, so I'll be doing another massive slide show later.

A good day all in all. Chinese food for dinner. I am soooooooo sick of Italian food and I was dying for chicken. Worst service ever. Cooks made everything at once, then all the help sat down and ate at a big table while their customers ate. Odd to say the least. Two couples that walked in while the help was eating, walked out because no one took their order.

Okay enough. This is 1.20 euros worth of updates. I'll check email tomorrow and be off and running on Wednesday.

Ciao for now.
