Bayou selfies and other corny jokes. Alligators, alligators, alligators all over the preserve.

It rained overnight here in NOLA. Kathy had chosen to do a swamp tour and visit the Lafitte Nature Preserve in Barataria about 30 south of New Orleans.

We left earlier than needed to insure that our trusty (not) Magellan got us to our destination. After a few missteps (like not being able to put in the correct street), I eventually pulled out the phone and google maps got us there.

There were about 20 people on the Jean Lafitte Swamp Tour and our guide, Capt. Toby, was kinda low on information but big on corny jokes. For instance. "If you take your own picture out here it's s bayou selfie." "How many of y'all are locals? That's good cause alligators favorite food is tourists." "l'll be handing out life jackets if we start sinkin', but you won't see wearing one cause they just slow you down and that's good for me." I decided to have him write the rest of my blogs.

Here's Kathy eying her\prey.

And she got it.

Thankfully she shared it with me.

You can do a rule of thumb measurement by going from the snout to eyes. Every 1 inch equals about 1 foot of body length. The one above was a nice 3 foot plus and very accommodating to being held by all us tourists.

One of the big ones that we saw. This ones about 10 foot and 600 lbs.

After the tour we headed over to the Nature Preserve for a nice hike thru the bayou to one of the canals that ran thru the area.

Kathy looking for tree snakes.

Actually it's this big honkin' Cypress tree. It's one of the last remaining giants from before the loggers cleared the area. It was standing in 1812 according to a plaque.

An oddity in the world of Louisiana live oaks is this one.

The exposed roots aren't natural, they were cleared out by people mining the shells and gravel that the tree was on for materials to make asphalt.

Fun day.

Laissez les bons temps rouler
