Bob and Carolyn arrived around noon today and we immediately started having more fun than Bob was probably prepared for.
Tuesday is Fried Chicken day, of course So Bob's first walk was the three blocks to the Hi Hat Cafe. Of course we all had it and the reviews were best summed up by Bob's "pretty damn good". We split a dessert, Butterscotch Pecan Pie with whipped cream and Jack Daniels ice cream. Also pretty good.
Our explorations pretty much mirrored yesterday for me. We started off heading down to the Tracey's Irish Bar block party but there were so many people that Bob wasn't sure he could handle it. (A harbinger of later in the day.)
We instead took off and headed up to Lake Ponchartrain and city park.
After a few jumping fish and a short walk we ventured into the park and saw the same turtles in the exact same position. I mean I know they move slowly but you'd think that in 24 hours they'd have made some progress.
After that we just drove thru the park saw the old oaks and then decided it was time for drinks and oysters. The bartender told us that the shucker was doing a 15 dozen order so we had to wait awhile. I didn't mention in past posts, that the bar at Superior Seafood is a one piece all zinc bar made in France and shipped whole to the restaurant. The bartender said it took like 30 guys to carry it in and install it.
Well Bob told me that he got sick in San Francisco eating oysters so he only had two and Carolyn polished off four, that left me only 6 (Sigh). See Bob's Facebook page for pics.
We boarded the St. Charles trolley and headed downtown. The Reeds haven't been here since 1987 so they wanted to see the French Quarter again and since there just happened to be a parade, Carolyn still wanted to do something Irish.
We got downtown at around 5:20, the parade was supposed to start at 6. We sat down at a bar to have a glass and let Bob rest. Bob had a Jameson's. Don't tell the surgeon.
6 - No Parade. So we headed over to the river to take a few pics. Bob was still doing well and using his new smart phone.
7 - No Parade. We moved down the street. This was the crowd across from Jackson Square.
8- No Parade. We moved further down the street and closer to the streetcar. I took this picture.
Finally at 9 Bob and Carolyn took as short walk to the CVS pharmacy out of boredom and when they got back they were ready to blow it off. The parade still hadn't turned the corner onto Canal St.
Bob had never exceeded 10000 steps in a day so he was a trooper and we got it done, though he was feeling pretty weak at the end of the evening. ( I am SO looking forward to going hiking with him this spring. I will kick his wimpy butt!!!)
Tomorrow, no plans as of yet. 88 and very sunny here today. Tomorrow upper 70's and a 30% chance of rain. We'll find something to do that's not so strenuous on Mr. Reed.
Laissez les bons temps rouler! Y'all,
