Friday was beautiful though once again windy. After a brief walk on the beach, I stopped by Carla's Kitchen for breakfast. I've eaten there everytime I've come to Morro.Very fresh food with lots of variations on breakfast staples. Country Biscuits Benedict. Guacamole Omelettes to name a couple that I've tried.
Fueled, I headed out to Montana de Oro State Park for some hiking. Valencia Peak at 1347 ft. is a short but at times steep 2.3 mile walk. Great views all the way as the trail is thru sagebrush and other low lying plants.
Looking down from the upper trail at Spooner's Cove where the parking lot is located. I visited it with Mary and Chris last year. Nice beach but way too much wave action to swim. Lots of tidal pools against the rocks where you can see crabs, sea urchins and lots of other stuff that I can't name.
Very busy for a Friday. I started at about 9:30 and saw 5 or 6 people coming down as I headed up. Met two park volunteers on the last switchback on the way up and we chatted for a moment about the wind. They also said that they climb both Valencia and Hazard at least once a week to check on trail conditions and ticket dog owners that ignore the "no dogs" signs. They said it happens once or twice a week and most its tourists and then just send them down the trail with a warning.
Got on top in less than an hour, there's so much oxygen down here. 6 people on top hanging out chatting. When I got there I pulled out my phone to take some pics and as I was, we all heard a chime. Of course I thought it was mine and someone said "Guess that means you made it!", I said you're not officially on top til your GPS tells you so.
Summit and picnic table with folks enjoying the day.
Looking off towards town and the bay from the top.
I didn't hang around long, way to much talking for a wildness experience. I did find some California Poppies that had made it through the drought.
A nice trail on a nice day.
Headed over to the Morro Dunes RV to talk with them about bringing my RV out next winter. A fair price that includes water, electricity and cable, but a 60 day limit. So I'd have to move my RV out for a minimum of three days and then bring it back in. TBD.
Finished my afternoon by walking around downtown Morro Bay looking for new places to eat since the Embarcadero places are pretty high end. Found Sabetta's Pizza and got a nice small special for 9.99.
Weekends in Morro Bay mean music at The Siren. Friday's band was called Band Tozzi and they played oldie covers. Would have been a good band for the Rock and Soul Jam.
