Day 26 - No Joy in Mudville Redux

Awoke to mostly sunny skies today and no power in the "villa".  Despite the sunshine I could tell that rain was coming this way. Cristian has told me that if I wanted to know what the weather would be like in a couple hours to look towards Stromboli. Sure enough it was gloomy over there and the clouds were moving south to north.

No power, no hot water, so I put off taking a shower and got ready to head down the hill to go to the Saturday market and get some essentials for the rest of the weekend. Remember that here everything closes down on Sunday, with the exception of a few restaurants.

Was able to buy a couple cheap glasses at the market to replace the one that I had broken last night. I really shouldn't have left it on the floor next to the chair, but I'd been soooo careful. Three nice little drinking glass from a nice vendor for 3 euros. Not totally out of line, I guess, probably half that in bigger cities.

I also picked up some fresh split olives, a nice sausage, fresh bread, some fresh fruit and juice all for under 8 euros. So I'll have a couple cheap meals unless the weather clears up and I feel like walking down the hill to town for dinner later or tomorrow night. Still have lots of pasta left to cook as well as cheese that D bought when he was here that we didn't get to finish.

The forecast, as accurate as it is, says rain ending tonight and mostly sunny for the next three days. It's subject to change and will if I know better. This is the same forecast that told us that it was 50 and icy here in Tropea the day we left Sicily. So you can see why I trust it.

Got back from walking  up the hill just in time. Within 10 minutes it started raining, again. Just lightly not a downpour, but enough to keep me inside. The electricity's  back on so I can turn on some tunes on, get to work on the blog and research my trip to Sorrento in just less than a week now.

Finally around noon it cleared up again. lots of blue sky over the Med, but here it's high clouds and still chilly. In the 50's I'm sure but seems a bit colder. If it holds I'll try to get down town to do some movies of the old part of town and get out of the "villa".

Not much else going on here. Just watching the already saturated ground try to absorb some more water. Riveting reporting, no?

Hope things are well with all of you. Thanks again to everyone following this and for the kind words of encouragement. Grazie per tutto la vostra gentilezza

Got a note from D this AM saying he'd read the blog (I'm guessing he had someone read it to him ;0. His wife and oldest son have been battling the flu and I hope D and Derek don't come down with it. Get better quickly guys.

Just filling up space now so I'll let you go. Ciao for now.

Last minute update. Just before I could publish today, I saw Cristian bringing some new plants in for a project that he and his dad were working on. I needed some help pronouncing a phrase that I'll need next week so I thought we'd chat a moment and of course it ended with "Have you eaten?" I know better than to say I have  (I hadn't).

So I can happily say. Mama Buttafuoco comes through again. Bless her heart.

Orrichette with broccoli. Simple but yummy.

Hey things are looking up, Grandma's coming for dinner tomorrow.
