What a difference a day makes both in weather and my attitude. Brilliant blue skies this morning with just a hint of high white clouds. Chilly though so I did a load of towels and listened to some Beethoven till it warmed up a bit.
Got my shorts out and headed down the hill and off to Parghelia, a nearby town about 4 km away. The roads were mostly empty since most good Italians were at mass and I made good time since I was familiar with the route. Depoti and I had driven through it on our way back from Zaccacopoli last week.
Zaccacopoli is actually on top of this plateau, you can just make out some of the houses on the outskirts.
Some beautiful views back towards Tropea and the "villa" from closer to Parghelia.
Yes, those are "tropean" onions.
Probably hard to see in this picture, but the "villa" is located on the hillside directly ahead. Look at the cell tower, go down the ridge line half way and you'll see the road that runs directly above the house. The tan roof is the main house. Don't strain your eyes, I've got better pictures. Just wanted you to get some perspective of where it was on the grand scale.
Ocean view with your house anyone??
It's turned very green and the flowers are out everywhere.
Further on down the road on the return trip for Parghelia I saw a shortcut down to the beach. When I got to the end of the road this is what I found.
Now I don't know if this was meant to be a boat ramp, the pedestal at the bottom pretty much negated that, or if it was a wheelchair ramp (way too steep for that). Anybody got any ideas?
Anyway it was just past a big hotel (30 or 40 rooms at least., a B&B and a pizzeria, so I'm assuming it's fairly well used access to the Parghelia beach.
Looking North on Parghelia beach.
Looking South towards Tropea and the marina.
From the Via Raf Vallone walking back into town.
A great 1:58 minute hike/walk. I was gonna video up the Stairway, but forgot that I was charging the battery last nigh t so I forgot to bring it with me. Oops. Good thing though I was really huffing and puffing on the way up today. Lost all my shape in the last two days of sitting around. If it's nice tomorrow AM....
It's all in the timing. I got back just in time.
Never cook on Sunday, y'all. I'm thinking this is the Italian version of roast beef, mashed potatoes and gravy Sunday dinner.
Nearly three o'clock here and still nice outside, though the clouds are rolling in.
Can you believe that February is over already?? I'm amazed. See you soon.
Ciao for now.
