If the forecast is snow, I must go.

Been a while since I've taken a road trip and posted anything. I've moved to Silver Cliff and met some really fantastic people. Its been a busy couple of months since last Thanksgiving when I decided to sell my Denver home and move.

My friend Bob Reed collapsed on the beach in Port Aransas on Friday the 13th and was kept alive by two gentlemen until the paramedics arrived to transport him to the hospital. He's been in ICU since then and yet to regain full consciousness.

I've rented an apartment in New Orleans for the month of March to escape the snow and since it was right around the corner, I decided to head out early and come down to spend some time with Carolyn while we waited to see what Bob's prognosis would be.

I arrived today after a 13 hour drive divided into two days. I went to the ICU at the hospital and when I got to Bob's room I found that he looks good I must say. His arms are restrained due to his aggravation with his breathing tube, but his color is good and he's constantly moving around in bed. They give him a sedation vacation every 4 hours and tonight he opened his eyes to a slit so I could say hello.

Carolyn said this was a better day than yesterday. They've cleaned out the "gunk" in his lungs and he's supplementing his breathing on his own. Basically, the machine gives him 14 breathes a minute and he's adding 16 to 20 on his own. It's a good sign.

No sign of the pulmonologist (?) who's going to make the decision to pull his tube out, but all the nurses seem very optimistic that tomorrow is going to be the day.

As Brother Dave and Carolyn explained to me at dinner this evening, Bob had an "electrical" event rather a stroke or heart attack. Basically his heart was misfiring rather than beating with a normal rhythm. This is good in that it means that there probably wasn't any damage to his heart. Whether he'll need a pacemaker to regulate it will be determined in the next few days.

I'll won't be heading out to NOLA until Bob's situation is resolved, but am looking forward to getting there and experiencing the Carrollton/Uptown lifestyle for a month. I've got friends visiting at various times and I keep you posted on not only what it's like to live there, but the adventures that we have while we're there.

Ciao for now.
